Honesty [2019]

Can I tell you the truth—

what I feel when I see your face?

Can I bear the ache of opening,

the chance of refusal?

Is it even pain,

is it even risk,

when it’s you?

When we speak in soft, sweet moments,

they linger like half-remembered childhood:

forgotten, yet always felt.

There are moments so clear,

so unapologetically pure,

I feel as though I’m speaking

to a part of myself—

or maybe simply

a part of you.

And I want nothing more

than to say it.
