I can say “I don’t care” a thousand times,
But that doesn't change the burning in my chest,
the fire in my blood or rush in my head,
when I try to wrestle myself to sleep,
haunted by the thoughts of wanting more.
I can say “I don't mind” a thousand times,
But that doesn’t change the pain in my hands,
the jolt in my feet and sting in my eyes,
when I wake in a rush at night,
fighting the fears of not being enough.
I do care…
I’d work through the dark and fight through the light,
by the flames in my blood and air in my lungs.
And on those tireless nights when rest escapes me,
I’ll breathe warmth into the air and let it know
that my soul won’t be chilled by the void.
Whether for long or short, I’ll let the flames grow hotter,
and give what I am to strangers and friends alike.
And when the embers die out, and the ash is all that's left,
I will go peacefully into the quiet cold,
and in silent victory, I will exit a frostbitten world.
