Ὄρος, transliterated oros, translated to “a mountain or hill” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, 3735).

Mountains rise repeatedly seen in Scripture as a theological stage. God acts, reveals, judges and saves on mountains.

In Exodus 20, Mount Sinai is the stage for God’s reveal of the Ten Commandments. In 1 Kings 19, Elijah hears God on Mount Horeb. And in Matthew 17, Jesus is transfigured at the summit of a mountain. In Genesis 22 it is on the slope of Mount Moria that Abraham is tested, and in Matthew 4, Jesus is tempted by Satan on a mountain overlooking all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. Outside of these specific locations, every mountain stands as a natural monument to our Creator.

In scripture, mountains are rarely accidental geography.

Mountains are elevated places where heaven and earth seem to meet. They are where God reveals Himself, where He establishes covenants, tests His faithful and displays His glory.

It is no accident that when we climb to the still heights, we stand in awe.

We need not stand upon granite peaks to ascend. The Lord is not confined to altitude. Yet the pattern remains: throughout Scripture, those who withdrew from the noise of the world found Him.

Our goal with Oros Press is to create works that inspire wonder, awaken longing and cause readers to look upward toward God. God still calls us there today. God is waiting, in the still heights.
